Why You Have Nothing To Wear

Why You Have Nothing To Wear

Why You Have Nothing To Wear

Full Closet. Nothing To Wear.

Recently a new client asked to work with me because she was fed up with having lots of clothes, yet nothing she loved to wear.

Every time she was getting dressed for either an in-person or remote meeting she would wear the same one or two outfits that she had in a few different colors, but always felt frumpy.

And she couldn’t understand why the clothes she had bought seemed great when she bought them, and not so great when she tried to make an outfit with them.

She hysterically shared that her recent way of accessorizing an outfit was to put a bra on. LOL

Then she confessed that things got worse when she let her 18-year-old daughter give her styling advice. 😳

Hence, her “I can’t take it anymore” ringy -dingy to my cell.

I virtually took a look at her clothes and a few selfies so I could see what was going wrong and how to make it right. And it worked.

I told her, here’s why you have nothing to wear…

Turns out she was buying clothes just because they fit, instead of loving how she looked in them and following the advice of a teenager might have worked if she was 18, but not at over 45.

She had lots of pieces, but very few that could be mix and matched to create lots of new outfits.

During her Zoom with me, I was able to show her which of her clothes were perfect for her and which to get out of her closet. And because she chose my Premium Virtual Styling service, I showed her the clothes and accessories to try and buy because I knew she’d look amazing wearing them.

Yesterday she emailed me a big thank you. She loves all the compliments she’s now getting when on camera, and finally her insecurities are gone. She also stopped buying clothes she didn’t even like to wear.

PS Now she’s giving her daughter styling advice and she’s listening!!  Respect!

How To Get Their Attention OnLine

How To Get Their Attention OnLine

How To Get Their Attention OnLine

How To Get Their Attention OnLine

Sometimes going online is the only way to get an outcome you not only desire but also need.

A few months ago a client asked me to help her find a dress to wear to her son’s wedding reception in the fall.

I sent her links to a few dresses I felt she’d look great in plus one dressy 2 piece pants outfit. She didn’t ask for pants, but I felt she would look spectacular in this particular outfit.

Some of the dresses were lovely on her, but she LOVED how the pants outfit looked on her and the photos she sent me of her wearing it showed how stunning she looked and felt.

Note: She would never have picked the winning outfit on her own.

She mailed back the dresses as she didn’t need them, and…

Done.

Unfortunately, the pants set was damaged as the box that it was shipped in took quite a beating,

Not done.

The easy solution was to order another one and send back the damaged one.

Done.

A few months went by, and she still hadn’t gotten credit for the damaged set she had returned.

Not done.

She reached out to me to ask for advice as her emails and telephone calls were not getting her the refund that was due to her.

I told her to go their FaceBook page and very nicely explain the problem, and wouldn’t you know it, she got a response and refund in less than 24 hours and now it’s Done!

What are you saying?

Now if you’re working and being seen online, I want you not to look like everyone else.

If you dress too casually, simply, or unimaginatively, you’re showing your existing and prospective clients how you see your business or GASP, them!!!!

Watch below to see what I feel so strongly about and how to get their
attention online in a good way.

Let’s talk about how we can make you not disappear and lose clients.

Make Money Consigning Your Clothes

Make Money Consigning Your Clothes

You have hundreds to thousands of dollars sitting in your clothes closet.

Ever ask yourself how much of those dollars you actually wear?

Scary, right?

Very often new or long-time clients want to learn how to pick out clothes they won’t be sorry they bought plus get help to say either see ya, so long, bye-bye, nice knowing you, doesn’t bring me joy, I’ll never wear it, it’ll never fit again, or ________________________. You can fill in the blank.

Here I am, below, telling you about 2 clients who made money from clothes they either didn’t or shouldn’t wear.

The very fun, very OMG now I know why that dress, top, necklace, scarf, you name it, doesn’t look good on me Virtual Personal Styling Workshop has just 2 virtual seats left.

Can Clothes Come Back In Style?

Come on, you know you’ve wondered if you held on long enough to something in your closet it will come ‘back in style.’

And many times things do come back in style…kinda. Because nothing comes back exactly as it was before, and often we can’t wear it the way it’s being shown now.

The clothes you may have been holding onto while wondering can clothes come back in style, simply don’t look as great as you imagined for a few reasons. Check out examples A and B for why not.

Example A – Leather Jackets

Can Clothes Come Back In Style?

Can Clothes Come Back In Style?

  1. Unless you’re going to wear high heels, very skinny-legged pants with a shirt tucked in, your old leather jacket will not duplicate this outfit.
Also, notice how the hem of this jacket is very curved? That great detail not only modernizes a leather jacket but also makes our middles look smaller. Who wouldn’t want that?
I bet your boxy shaped leather jacket from 20 years ago has square-cornered hems, like this one currently for sale on eBay. Please do not place a bid. 😳Can Clothes Come Back In Style?

Example B -1970’s plaids, bow-tie blouses, tailored jackets, etc.

Can Clothes Come Back In Style?

Can Clothes Come Back In Style?

Can Clothes Come Back In Style?

  1. If you were to put on your 1970’s plaid jacket with a matching skirt with a giant-sized bow on your blouse, how do you think it’ll look?
    Current or OMG?
So here’s my theory: If we wear something that has been sitting in our closet for 20 plus years and put it on now being 20 plus years older, we’ll simply look like we’re wearing old clothes which then makes us look older and appear stuck in the past. That never makes us look stylish or on-trend.

EXCEPTION
Recently a woman in one of my virtual styling workshops wanted my opinion on some pretty vintage cocktail dresses that belonged to her mother. Often vintage or unique pieces can be worn today with more current pieces and accessories. This is tricky but lots of fun…well to me it is. I gave suggestions as to how to wear them today by not wearing the matching boxy jacket and now she, like the rest of us, is looking forward to a great big party.

Amazon has become the go-to place to shop, and these days of mostly staying at home, we can find practically anything there.

No matter how you may feel about Amazon, there are some great finds on it, and here are a few of my favorites in a very, very eclectic list.

Cover your shoulders in the heat and stay cool with these sheer covers that I often recommend that comes in tons of colors.

This poncho is for cooler weather and perfect for throwing on over your top to instantly look stylish & really great for when you’re going to be on Zoom for a virtual date or meeting.

This poncho is perfect for covering up in warmer weather and another great choice for Zoom dating and meetings and also comes in tons of colors.

This well-priced ring light is what I use when I don’t have enough natural light. Plus it has a remote for taking photos or videos.

If you like hard-boiled eggs, I don’t but my husband does, this is the cutest way to cook and store them. It was one of his favorite Christmas gifts.

This iPhone case is expensive looking, great quality, and comes packaged like a Hermes scarf. and makes for a great gift.

I love black string licorice and have a hard time finding it. This 2 lb bag keeps me happy…for a bit of time. 🤫

These are so much nicer than the regular reusable plastic tote bags I used to use when shopping at the market.

I LOVE this body cream. Not only is it a great body moisturizer but also smells soooo good.

Look Thinner With Clothes

6 Easy Ways To Look Thinner With Clothes

Here’s How to Look Thinner with Clothes

Sometimes, actually pretty much always, it’s the small styling detail that makes a big difference and one of today’s tips is all about corners.

So now that you saw and heard me tell you to avoid squared corners I’m going to slightly contradict myself as you can see here in this before and after of my wonderful client wearing a squared corner jacket in her after photo.

Look Thinner With Clothes

She’s wearing an outfit I created using the clothes she purchased from our shopping trip, where I must say I found some incredible deals and fabulous wardrobe building pieces for her.

And yes, her new jacket has squared corners and here’s why it and everything else she’s wearing is perfect on her and will make all of us look thinner with clothes:

  1. This jacket is meant only to be worn open on her and since it hangs straight down it’s an instant middle minimizer.
  2. The bracelet sleeve length is another secret, shhh, way to minimize the middle and visually lengthen the body.
  3. Full vs ankle-length pants are typically more slimming.
  4. Wearing a top under a jacket untucked.
  5. This neckline is much more flattering on her than the low and wide one in her before outfit.
  6. Wearing the same color from top to bottom is always a slimming and lengthening trick yet this after outfit proves you don’t have to be in only dark colors from head to toe to look slimmer and stylish.

These are all great examples of how small tweaks transform an outfit and when you know what to look for.

And let me tell you that they don’t play around with their sales, as the prices really will go back up on 1/21. Trust me…I know.

Example: A jacket I looked at yesterday on sale for $118 is an extra 40% off today!! That’s a savings of $47 and I consider that a lot of money to save.

I created this mini-catalog, see below,  with some of my notes for you to see the savings I’m talking about. Seriously you need to get items in your cart quickly before they run out.

Yes, that’s me and do let me know how long you stared and laughed at this embarrassing yet highly entertaining photo of yours truly.

I’m not sure what’s funnier: the outfit I’m wearing or that my husband and I thought it was worthy of striking a pose for a photograph.

The purpose of my sharing this recently discovered photo is to show and easily prove, that trends are hysterical and that I too once had absolutely NO idea what looked good on me.

  2. A mock neck that looks bad on practically EVERYBODY.
  3. Hoop earrings that are way too big for my then little face.
  4. Giant short sleeves that never, nor should, get a hey you look great comment.
  5. A bowl haircut that I must have foolishly paid someone to give me.
  6. Did I mention black socks?????
